Stuff of real interest
I have noticed that over recent weeks teams have picked up speed on sending out press releases on transactions, happenings, pregame and post game stuff, and media coverage has picked up as well. Progress is being made which I like to see. The AFL, with far fewer teams than indoor football, is still doing a better job, but on the indoor football side of things we're seeing a better effort than only a few weeks ago.
Sunday around noon I did a quick check of the league sites to see who had updated releases and other information from the busy Saturday game schedule. The IFL, even though Pointstreak has most everything up to date on the games, still had not posted any team releases, the last being from Friday. Checking on the AIFA, nothing since Friday either and in their statistics and scores reported, nothing on the New Jersey-Fayetteville game. Over in the CIFL, everything was up to date with their stats and standings, but there were no releases on games from teams since Friday. Last, the SIFL. Everything was up to date including stories on Saturday's games. My guess here is at the league level for most, it's still only a Monday through Friday gig.
I thought it funny in a conversation with somebody inside the CIFL that they feel they don't have enough league staff to really do the job they would like to do and are looking at hiring some interns to help out in the near future. I think this is funny simply because the CIFL is the smallest league along with the SIFL and yet have a larger staff than any of the other three. I guess all in all it makes sense that the CIFL is doing a better job overall on some things than any of the other three. Now the SIFL maybe has the smallest league staff and does a good job in most areas as well. Granted, these two leagues combined don't have the number of teams that the AIFA and IFL have and it goes without saying the fewer teams, the easier it is to follow and update on them. Is it just an excuse or do the CIFL and SIFL just care more? As I said, the CIFL has the largest staff and it boggles my mind why they have a larger staff than either the AIFA or IFL and to further the point why the CIFL and SIFL look at weekends as business as usual when the other two seem to take the weekends off.
When I was part of the NIFL, part of my job was updating scores and stats. I didn't get up on game days at 5 am Pacific and maybe to bed by one or two am the next morning by choice or because I felt the need to get information out, but because it was what was expected. One can say all they want about the NIFL, and there was plenty of bad to talk about, but one thing they did expect was for those involved to put in the time needed regardless of the day of the week or the hours needed to do it. In season, it's a 24/7 job at the league level.
A good job
From the Billings Gazette, April 19, 2010, Outlaws give $950 to cancer victim. The full article is at http://billingsgazette.com/sports/football/professional/arena/article_7f050d6a-4b73-11df-9939-001cc4c03286.html Good job, Outlaws, way to help out those less fortunate in your community! This money was donated by the players, not the team which adds to the commitment to the Billings community by not only the team, but by the players.
A question
As of Monday noon Eastern time still no score on the Fayetteville at New Jersey game posted on the AIFA official site. My question is to the AIFA. How difficult is it to get the score of one game?
