Sienko Earns Player of the Month Honors

DURHAM, N.C. - Joliet catcher Ryan Sienko was named Wednesday the Rawlings Northern League Central Player of the Month for June by league statistician SportsTicker Boston.

Sienko, 26, posted 10 multi-hit games in the month and batted .352, the highest average of any regular during June. He also posted 19 extra-base hits in 88 at bats, a .773 slugging percentage and a .482 on-base percentage.

Sienko, who was born and lives in Elgin, Ill., attended the University of Iowa. He was not drafted out of college and signed a contract with independent Kalamazoo (Mich.) of the Frontier League for the 1997 season. The Texas Rangers acquired his contract prior to the 1998 season. He hit .174 in 46 at bats at Single-A Savannah in 1998 and .151 in 86 at bats there in 1999.

The Schaumburg Flyers signed him for 2000, and he hit .193 in 187 at bats with nine home runs. He batted .244 last year with eight homers for the Flyers in 246 at bats.

The JackHammers purchased Sienko's contract from Schaumburg on Dec. 11.
