Sidney Crosby Named Canadian Hockey League Player of the Week

Toronto - The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Sidney Crosby of the Rimouski Oceanic is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday September 28, 2003. Crosby scored five goals and added four assists for nine points in four games last week. He opened the week with a goal and an assist in a 5-3 loss to the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles on September 23. He followed up with a pair of goals and an assist in a 6-2 win over the P.E.I. Rocket on September 26, added an assist in a 4-2 loss to the Moncton Wildcats on September 27 and concluded the week with two goals and an assist in a 6-3 win over the Acadie-Bathurst Titan on September 28. Crosby, a 16-year-old native of Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, was the first overall pick in the QMJHL draft in June. He leads all CHL snipers with 10 goals and is second in the QMJHL with 18 points in eight games. He was named QMJHL Player of the Week each of the past two weeks. Tomas Fleischmann of the Moose Jaw Warriors was the WHL Player of the Week after scoring a goal and eight assists in three games last week and 2002-03 CHL Player of the Year Corey Locke of the Ottawa 67's was the OHL Player of the Week with four goals and four assists for eight points in three games. Moncton Wildcats goaltender Corey Crawford was the QMJHL Defensive Player of the Week after posting a 1.50 goals against average and .939 save percentage in two wins.
