Sidewinders take on Wildcats in exhibition opener

Tucson, AZ - The Tucson Sidewinders will preface their 2006 season with an exhibition game against the University of Arizona Wildcats baseball team. The exhibition opener will take place Tuesday, April 4th at 6:00 p.m. at Tucson Electric Park. Tickets to the general admission event will be available at the Tucson Electric Park box office the day of event for only $3 benefiting charity.

All proceeds from the event will be donated to the University of Arizona's Steele Children's Research Center where internationally known physicians and scientists, who also are professors in the UA Department of Pediatrics, work together to research causes and develop cures for childhood illnesses and diseases. The Center works to advance medical knowledge to help improve the health of Arizona's children and children throughout the world.

2006 will mark the third consecutive year in which the Sidewinders have taken on the Univ. of Arizona squad. Tucson blanked the Wildcats 8-0 last season led a portentous game at the plate by 1B Conor Jackson who went 4-for-5 with a double and a pair of runs scored.

Sidewinders Manager Chip Hale, who will miss the exhibition while filling in as the Diamondbacks' 3rd Base Coach, was a standout himself for Arizona, starting every game of his 4-year college career from 1983-87. Chip set school career marks (at the time) for hits and walks while hitting a combined .345 for the Wildcats and also helped lead the team to the 1986 NCAA Championship at the College World Series. Two 2005 Sidewinders 1B/C Alan Zinter (1987-89) and Keoni DeRenne (1998-2000) also played their college careers at the Univ. of Arizona.

The exhibition game will be broadcast live in its entirety on the Sidewinders flagship COOL 1450 AM and will be streamed online at www.tucsonsidewinders.com as well as on KAMP Student Radio at kamp.arizona.edu.
