Hickory Crawdads News Release
Hickory, NC - Evan Siary pitched seven innings on Thursday night and the Crawdads offense popped a trio of home runs to push Hickory to a 7-4 over the Delmarva Shorebirds at LP Frans Stadium.
Siary was sensational on the bump tonight for Hickory, as the right-hander delivered a quality start, surrendering just five hits while walking no one on his way to his sixth win of the campaign.
Ty Head got Delmarva on the board with a solo homer in the fourth, giving the Shorebirds a 1-0 lead.
Josh Owens singled home Seong-Jun Kim with a knock to center field, evening the game at 1-1 going to the fifth stanza.
After Delmarva reclaimed the lead in the fifth, the Crawdads responded a half-inning later as Deward Tovar drove a two-run single through the right side of the infield, giving Hickory (68-46, 34-16) the lead for good at 3-2.
Josh Springer followed Tovar with a two-run blast to left, stretching the 'Dads lead to 5-2 as the game moved into the sixth inning.
The homer for Springer was his first of the season, as he returned to action at LP Frans Stadium for the first time since coming off the injured list.
In the sixth, the Crawdads would increase their lead with back-to-back solo shots from Paulino Santana (14) and Pablo Guerrero (7). The solo blasts, off losing Delmarva (42-75, 19-32) pitcher Connor Gehr (0-1), would expand the lead to 7-2 through six frames.
Frank Martinez would pick up the final four outs of the contest to claim his third save of the year.
The win for Hickory keeps them ahead of the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers by 5.5 games in the chase for the final South Division playoff spot, as Kannapolis defeated Fredericksburg 9-5 on Thursday night.
The Crawdads continue the six-game series tomorrow night, with first pitch slated for 7pm at the Frans.
