
Shreveport Sports Win Opener

Shreveport-Bossier Captains News Release
Shreveport Sports second baseman George Stricker singled to centerfield with two outs in the 11th inning to score Michael Hicks from second base as the Sports defeated Edinburg 5-4 in the 2003 season opener at Fair Grounds Field in Shreveport Thursday night.
Hicks, who played his college baseball across town at Centenary had doubled with one out in the 11th inning to set up the winning base hit by Stricker. The double by Hicks was the only extra base hit for the Sports.
Relief pitcher John Parker (1-0) got the win for Shreveport while relief hurler Chris Russ (0-1) took the loss for Edinburg.
The Roadrunner out hit Shreveport 12-9 as Kevin Wilson and Vince Moore had solo home runs for Edinburg.
Shreveport and Edinburg will play game two of the four game series Friday at Fair Grounds Field. Game time will be 7:05pm. (LH) Ryan Snyder will pitch for the Sports while (RH) Brandon Mozley will go to the mound for the Roadrunners.
