1- The Governors' Cup Champion Colorado Eagles have a 3-0 best-of-seven semifinals series advantage over the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs with Game Four scheduled for tonight (04/6/09). The last game between these two teams was back on Thursday, a 3-2 Eagles victory. In the history of the CHL, there have been 20 series' that sat with one team holding a 3-0 advantage and 14 of those series' have ended with a sweep. No team has ever come back to win a series after trailing 3-0. Should the Mudbugs prevail tonight, the teams will play Game Five on Tuesday.
COL/BOS Series Notes:
-The Mudbugs power play goal versus the Eagles on Thursday ended a string of 42 straight man advantages that Bossier-Shreveport had failed on versus the Eagles...The 'Bugs had not scored a PP goal versus Colorado since Feb. 17, 2007 prior to Thursday's game
-Colorado's Andrew Penner has played in all three games in the series so far allowing eight goals on 113 shots (.927)
-Bossier-Shreveport's Chris Brassard, Tyrel Lucas and Kevin Cooper have combined for just two assists in the series so far...During the regular season, the trio totaled 129 points (54 goals)
-Ed McGrane's (COL) point streak currently stands at 23 games dating back to the regular season (his 20-game streak to end the regular season set an Eagles franchise record and was the longest in the CHL this season)
2- After dropping each of the first two games in their best-of-seven semifinals series versus the Laredo Bucks, the Odessa Jackalopes have gone off winning three straight games and now they sit just one win from advancing to the Southern Conference Finals. Game Six of their series versus the Bucks is set for Tuesday night in Laredo. Four of the five games in the series have been decided by one goal with three games going to overtime.
ODE/LAR Series Notes:
-Laredo's Darryl Smith, the CHL Rookie of the Year, missed Saturday's game in Odessa after sustaining a lower body injury in Game Four...Smith led the Bucks with four goals and six points in the series prior to his injury
-Odessa's Juha Toivonen is 3-0 with a 1.93 GAA in his three starts
-Shawn Snider (LAR) has three goals in the series with two of those coming via the shorthanded variety
-The Bucks are leading all teams with a 36 penalty minute average in the post-season...The Bucks have 181 minutes including a league-high seven major penalties and James Hiebert's 42 minutes are the most of any individual player
3- The Mississippi RiverKings will take their second crack at knocking the Oklahoma City Blazers out of the playoffs on Monday night in Oklahoma City. The RiverKings had a chance on Saturday night leading their best-of-seven semifinals series 3-1 but OKC played well s=going 3 for 6 on the power play en route to a 5-3 win. Bill Vandermeer had two goals and two assists in the win forcing a Game Six. The bad news for the Blazers is that the RiverKings are 6-0 in the Ford Center this season including winning Game's Three and Four in this series.
MIS/OKC Series Notes:
-Four of the five games have been decided by a goal in this series
-Matt Summers (MIS) has three goals (tied for the team lead in the post-season) and is a team-best +6
-The RiverKings have outscored the Blazers 6-2 in the third period of games during the series
-Bill and Ted Vandermeer have combined for 12 points (6-6=12) and Ted has scored the game winner in each of the two OKC wins in the series
4- The Texas Brahmas swept their way into the conference finals for the second straight season with their 4-0 series win over the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees. Last season, the Brahmas swept the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs advancing to the Northern Conference Finals. This year, the Brahmas will await the winner of the Laredo/Odessa series in the Southern Conference Finals.
TEX Notes:
-Tyler Skworchinski (TEX) scored the game winning goal in each of the four games in the series versus the Bees and has six goals in the post-season
-The Brahmas outscored the Bees 18-9 in the series
