Three Things You Need to Know

1.) Clash of the Titans- Although the CHL's regular season is less than 10 games in, there is a huge battle looming this weekend when the CHL's two remaining undefeated clubs go head-to-head on Friday and Saturday night in South Dakota. The Rapid City Rush (9-0-0) will host the Missouri Mavericks (8-0-0) as something's got to give. The best start to a season in league history is 10 straight wins accomplished by two teams (Laredo in 2007-08 and Austin in 2002-03). Six of the Mavs eight wins have come on the road, while four of the Rush's nine wins have come at home. Defense is a key for both clubs with Missouri leading the league with a 1.50 team GAA and the Rush sitting second with a 2.22 team GAA. Missouri's Sebastien Thinel enters the game on a six-game point streak (12 points) and he is two assists shy of tying Chris Richards for third on the league's all-time assis ts list (548).

2.) Denver's Dynamic Duo- The Denver Cutthroats (6-3-2) has the highest scoring tandem in the CHL in Troy Schwab and Garett Bembridge. The duo has combined for 37 points (seven more points than the next highest scoring duo, Jesse Schultz and Konrad Reeder of Rapid City) and has helped Denver to a solid start to the season. Schwab has three goals and 16 assists and Bembridge has nine goals and nine assists. The Cutthroats are 5-0-1 on home ice and they will host the Quad City Mallards on Friday/Saturday. Both teams have done most of their damage in the third period with the Mallards sitting with a +6 (15-9) in the final frame and the Fish sitting with a +5 (15-10). The Mallards have played just one road game this season falling in a shootout to St. Charles but each of their next five contests are away from home.

3.) AHL Alumni Report- Numerous former CHL'ers are lacing them up in the American Hockey League (AHL). Several former Denver Cutthroats are playing in the AHL including defensemen Gabriel Beaupre and Markus Lauridsen with Lake Erie, defenseman Joel Chouinard with Hamilton and forward Jamie MacQueen with Norfolk. Former Wichita forward Erick Lizon has played 10 games with Oklahoma City and former Tulsa forward Jack Combs has played eight games with San Antonio. Defenseman Brett Skinner started last season with Allen and then finished the year with the Calder Cup Champion Grand Rapids Griffins. This year, the d-man has three helpers in 10 games with Norfolk.

By the Numbers

7: The number of goals that Tulsa Oilers forward Adam Pleskach has scored in seven games he has played. The rookie has 13 points (7-6=13) on the season and is the reigning Oakley Player of the Week. Tulsa plays in Wichita on Friday and Saturday nights and then hosts Brampton on Sunday.

One-Timers

-The Wichita Thunder (2-7-3) are coming off a convincing 6-1 win in Tulsa on Tuesday night ending an eight-game slide (0-6-2). Nick McParland had two goals and an assist and Matt Robinson scored twice. Over the next 14 days, the Thunder will play six straight games on home ice starting with games Friday and Saturday versus Tulsa (4-6-2).

-The St. Charles Chill waived forward Chad Costello on Tuesday. Costello was tied for the team lead in points (9) at the time of being released.

-Allen (8-3-1) and Brampton (6-4-1) meet for the fourth straight game on Friday night, the first time in Texas. The Beast won two of the three meetings last weekend in Canada including shutting out the Americans by a 4-0 count on Sunday afternoon. Grant Rollheiser made 37 saves earning his league-leading second shutout of the season.

-After going without a point in his first five games with Arizona Sundogs, forward Paul McIlveen has now notched at least a point in six straight games. McIlveen scored two goals in Tuesday's 4-3 OT win in Denver and now leads the Sundogs with nine points (4-5=9) on the season.

-Wichita forward Jon Booras finished sixth in the CHL last season with 32 goals (with Bloomington) but so far this year he has been held to setting people up. In 12 games with the Thunder, Booras has tallied 11 helpers and is still looking for his first goal.

-Rapid City's Tristin Llewellyn continues to lead all d-men in scoring with 12 points (3-9=12). Denver's Steve Kaunisto is second with nine points (1-8=9).
