UTICA, N.Y. - Gordy Gurson scored on a shootout try with just over three minutes left in overtime Sunday to lift Utica City to a 5-4 win over the Florida Tropics in Major Arena Soccer League action Sunday.
The Tropics jumped to an early 2-0 lead, but let that slip away on three straight goals by the hosts before Drew Ruggles got the equalizer midway through the fourth quarter to force the extra session.
Despite getting just two shots blocked, the Tropics managed just 13 shots on goal for the entire game, none in overtime. The Tropics had eight blocks, led by five from Chad Vandegriffe. Utica had 31 shots on goal.
In addition to the Ruggles scored, Florida got two goal from Ricardo Carvalho to give him a team-leading 16 on the season, and one from Joey Tavernese.
Florida will be at Kansas City Saturday and St. Louis Sunday.
