
Shock's Ruth Riley to attend National Reading Festival

Auburn Hills, MI - Detroit Shock center Ruth Riley, fresh off of her second WNBA Championship, has been invited to attend the sixth annual National Book Festival on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, September 30. It is the second trip to the Festival for Riley.
"Whether it is in our local Detroit schools, or being part of a national campaign such as Mrs. Bush's book festival, I have a passion for working with children and helping them understand that reading and education will open doors for their future," said Riley. "This is my second trip to the festival, and I am excited to meet people from are the country who are just as dedicated to making a difference in America's youth."
This National Book Festival has become widely anticipated by the entire literacy community. It is free and open to the public and features more than 70 award-winning authors, illustrators and poets appearing in "Fiction & Fantasy," "Mysteries & Thrillers," "History & Biography," "Children," "Teens & Children," "Poetry," and "Home & Family" pavilions.
The NBA and WNBA began their partnership with the Library of Congress on the National Book Festival during its inception in 2001. In addition to Riley, Washington Wizards center Brendan Haywood and three-time NBA Champion BJ Armstrong will participate in all parts of the event, including, the Gala, the White House breakfast, the opening ceremony, and the National Book Festival as featured readers at the Children's Pavilion.
