Detroit Shock News Release
Auburn Hills, MI - Detroit Shock forward/center Barbara Farris, Pistons mascot Hooper and Palace Sports & Entertainment Director of Year Round Hoops Aaron Smith are promoting the "Back In School. Back To Work." program to three elementary schools on October 6.
The "Back In School. Back To Work." caravan will pull in to Coolidge Elementary School in Flint, Chrysler Elementary in Detroit and Rainbow Elementary School in Clinton Township throughout the school day. The "Back In School. Back To Work." caravan is highlighted by posters of the Detroit Pistons starting five, Ben Wallace bookmarks, and motivational messages about the importance of education and life skills.
"The foundations of a good education and the discipline needed to succeed in life begin in elementary school," said Farris. "The hard work it takes to excel in the classroom or any other activity a child wants to pursue mirrors the hard work that the Pistons and Shock put in on the court year in and year out, which makes the 'Back In School. Back To Work.' message an appropriate one for us to relay to the children of Michigan."
Schools interested in participating in the "Back In School. Back To Work." program, which teaches both life and basketball skills to elementary and middle school students, may apply to do so online through the Community section at www.pistons.com.
