Shock Top Coaches Poll For 11th Straight Week

May 27, 2009 - arenafootball2 (af2) News Release

CHICAGO - The Spokane Shock have maintained the No. 1 ranking of the Weekly Coaches Poll for the 11th straight week, the arenafootball2 (af2) league office announced today. Spokane collected 382 of the 384 points possible and 23-of-25 first place votes in securing the top position. The Shock remain undefeated in 2009 (8-0) after a, 43-22, Week 9 home win against West Division rival Central Valley.

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers (7-1, 347 points, 2 first place votes) maintained their spot at No. 2 for the fourth straight week after their 69-19 home win against Green Bay. The Pioneers have won five straight contests overall and 22 consecutive regular season home games at Wachovia Arena. Tulsa (7-1, 345 points) remained at No. 3 during the team's bye week. South Division teams Tennessee Valley (6-2, 289 points) and South Georgia (7-2, 276 points) round out the Top-5 this week. Both clubs enjoyed a bye in Week 9.

Each week during the season af2 coaches will vote for the Top 16 teams in the league by ranking them one through 16 on a ballot. Teams ranked first receive 16 points with the point value decreasing by one for each place below first, meaning a team ranked 16th would receive one point. Total points will determine the Top 16 list. In the event of a tie in total points, the team with the greater number of first-place votes will be ranked higher. The af2 Coaches Poll will be announced every Wednesday during the regular season. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team and the poll results have no bearing on postseason qualification. The complete Top 16 is listed below. The number in parentheses indicates the number of first place votes the team received.
