Shock Signs Scholanda Dorrell

TULSA, Okla. (February 17, 2012) -Scholanda Dorrell (formerly Robinson) is returning to Tulsa as she has agreed to a multi-year deal with the Shock, President Steve Swetoha announced today.
Dorrell was the Shock's second leading scorer in 2010 with 11.9 points a game but was traded to the San Antonio Silver Stars last off-season for a second and third round pick in the 2012 WNBA Draft.
"We are extremely excited for the opportunity to bring Scholanda back to Tulsa," Head Coach Gary Kloppenburg said. "She had one of her best years in Tulsa in 2010. She's an underrated offensive player, a stopper on defense and fits in perfectly with our offensive and defensive schemes. She's a great teammate and will be a perfect fit in Tulsa."
Dorrell started 22 of 32 games in which she appeared for the Silver Stars in 2011, averaging 4.8 points and 1.5 rebounds in 16.2 minutes a game.
"I chose to come back because I always felt like this was a great place for a WNBA team," Dorrell said. "If I didn't believe in what could be accomplished here I wouldn't have come. I believe this team could be a playoff caliber team. Management has done a great job putting pieces together and now it's up to us to go to work on the court and play at a level that I believe we are capable of playing."
The Shock initially acquired Dorrell with the seventh overall pick in the 2009 Sacramento Monarchs Dispersal Draft. Dorrell started 33 of 34 games for the Shock in 2010 and averaged career-highs in points (11.9), rebounds (2.4), assists (1.7) and steals (1.6).
"Scholanda is a player that we have targeted since the onset of free agency," President Steve Swetoha said. "She gives us quickness and athleticism in the backcourt that will make us a better basketball team this season."

About the Tulsa Shock
The Tulsa Shock is a member club of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). The league will begin its 16th season in the summer of 2012 with 12 teams.
