Detroit Shock News Release

Auburn Hills, MI - Detroit Shock Head Coach and Director of Player Personnel Bill Laimbeer announced today that the team has signed former Hawaii guard Amy Sanders to a training camp contract. In addition, two key members of Detroit's 2006 Championship team, Deanna Nolan and Plenette Pierson, arrived in camp after completing their overseas commitments. The Shock training camp roster now consists of 13 players including Cheryl Ford and Kara Braxton, both of whom are still playing overseas, and Sabrina Palie, who is not expected to join the team this season.

Sanders completed her collegiate career in 2006, but went undrafted in the 2006 WNBA Draft. She spent the 2006-07 season playing in Sweden and continuing work on her degree. After four years at Hawaii, Sanders was tied for seventh in the Rainbow Wahine record books in career three-pointers (86) and eighth in three pointers attempted (276). She was a 2005 preseason All-WAC selection, and a two-time WAC Player of the Week honoree as a senior.

The Shock travel to Las Vegas on Sunday, March 29 to take part in a preseason scrimmage the following day with the Sacramento Monarchs, Minnesota Lynx and Houston Comets. Detroit's official preseason schedule tips off on May 4 at 8 p.m. ET against the Houston Comets at United Spirit Arena in Lubbock Texas.
