Shock releases 2006 television schedule

Auburn Hills, MI - The Detroit Shock announced today that the team will have 10 games televised locally during the 2006 regular season - five on FoxSports Net, three on Comcast Local and one each on ABC and ESPN2.

The FoxSports Net schedule is highlighted by a Wednesday, July 26 contest against MSU alumnae Kristin Haynie and the 2005 WNBA Champion Sacramento Monarchs, a Saturday, June 17 match-up vs. Sheryl Swooopes and the Houston Comets, and a Thursday, July 6 meeting with Diana Taurasi and the Phoenix Mercury.

Comcast Local's three games include a June 1 broadcast featuring Detroit's Eastern Conference rival, the New York Liberty, along with an August 8 contest against the 2004 WNBA Champion Seattle Storm. Game times for all eight local telecasts are 7:30 p.m. ET.

The Shock's two nationally televised games are at the two-time defending Eastern Conference Champion Connecticut Sun on Saturday, May 27 on ABC (4 p.m.) and vs. Tamika Catchings and the Indiana Fever on Tuesday, August 1 on ESPN 2 (8 p.m.).

Matt Shepard - the voice of the Shock on 1310 AM WDTW (which will simulcast this season on www.detroitshock.com) - and Joanne P. McCallie will return for the call on locally televised games this year.

Shepard enters his ninth season of broadcasting with the Shock, while McCallie begins her fourth year as a member of Detroit's broadcast team. A familiar voice around the Detroit area for more than 12 years, Shepard will handle the radio and television play-by-play duties for the team. Shepard is a versatile radio and television veteran, who has won two Michigan Association of Broadcasters "Best Radio Sportscast" awards. He also serves as a sports anchor and talk show host for WDFN AM 1130 in Detroit.

McCallie is the head coach of the Michigan State University Women's Basketball program. After five years at MSU, McCallie is on track to turn MSU into an elite women's program after guiding the 2005-06 Spartans to its third straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
