Detroit Shock News Release

DETROIT SHOCK HEAD COACH BILL LAIMBEER: (On offense): "Offensively, you can see this has been coming. If you watched the stat lines of our starters over the last three games you can see they're shooting about fifty percent, they're sharing the basketball pretty well. A game like this offensively has been coming, hopefully we'll continue to play like this."

(On losing leads): "I harped on turnovers in the middle of the game but we only had ten, but they were very untimely turnovers. We'd get a six or eight point lead in the first half and then a turnover and [Washington] would make some shots and tie the score. Same thing in the second half."

(On the importance of the game): "It was a very important game, no question about it. We play them only three times this year, the next one will be at their place. We have the same record and we don't want them to get a quality road win, a quality road win in this league is all important and winning in Detroit would be a quality road win, and we can't allow teams to get quality road wins here."

DETROIT SHOCK GUARD DEANNA NOLAN: (On the offense): "I thought today that we hit a lot of open shots, a lot of good shots, finding each other, which you can see in the assists. We have to know how to put people away. We'd get up eight or ten points and then turn it over and they'd get back in the game."

(On the importance of the game): "Being an eastern conference game and being that they're going to be a team fighting for a playoff spot, we have to win at home to have that home court advantage. They already won at their place, they had one up on us so we just had to even the score."

DETROIT SHOCK GUARD KATIE SMITH: (On the game): "I've felt good all year, its just repetition. Tonight we knocked down shots, everybody was moving the ball. It was an offensive game. In the first half, we both gave up forty some points. There wasn't a whole lot of defense. They have a lot of good players that can score. We came up ahead and we'll take it."

(On working hard): "I think it's just a mindset. We put in the work with practice. We've really been crashing the boards on both ends of the floor, individually people stepping up and doing what they need to do when they need to do it. Its been fun because we've we play well together. This is a great team and I think our defense is our steady. This wasn't necessarily our best, but we came out battling."

WASHINGTON MYSTICS HEAD COACH RICHIE ADUBATO: (On the game) "We're up in scoring offensively (this season), but we score big at home. We've only won one road game. We're 6-0 at home, so at home we're averaging about 83 a game. I wasn't expecting that with their defense."

(On Deanna Nolan) "Nolan made two big plays in transition when it was a four point game. She beat us down the floor and made two crossover moves and scored. She's lightning quick. We know she's one of the best guards in the league. She made two big plays at the end that I thought were the turning point."

(On their play) "I was happy with the fact that we were able to rebound with them. They only out rebounded us by three. They're the best rebounding team in the league and we're second to last. We've got a lot of effort and heart from the people that played. Right now we're a little shorthanded with DeLisha Milton so when we get in foul-trouble we get small but they still fought. Coming into the game we knew we had to control their transition game and we had to try and match them on the boards and except for that everything's pretty even.

WASHINGTON MYSTICS GUARD ALANA BEARD: (On her game) "I didn't come to play in the first half. The team did a great job coming out in the first half and jumped on them right off the block and that's what we needed when we're on the road. I may have had a good game in the second half but the first half was just horrendous."

(On Deanna Nolan) "She's a great player."

(On Cheryl Ford's impact on the Shock team) "She's huge. Sometimes I go in there and my eyes will just get big because they're coming at you. They've definitely got the best frontcourt, I think, in the league. Cheryl Ford and the other people that they bring off the bench. Plenette Pierson coming off the bench. I think they've got the best front court in the league."

POST GAME NOTES

JUNE 24, 2006

Detroit Shock vs. Washington Mystics

A HIGH OF 92 Detroit's 92 points were the most points they have scored this season and their most since a 95-86 win at Seattle on August 17, 2003. The Shock's 27 points in the fourth quarter were the most they have scored in a single quarter this season.

50-50 The Shock defeated the Mystics Saturday afternoon despite allowing Washington to make 50.7 percent of its field goal attempts. It is the first time Detroit has won a game when allowing the opposition to make better than 50 percent of their shots since a 76-65 win over the Cleveland Rockers on August 14, 2001 - a span of 12 games. Overall, Detroit is 5 and 34 in its eight-plus year history when allowing better than 50 percent shooting by an opponent.

The Shock also nailed better than 50 percent of their field goal attempts (51.4) - the first time they have broken the 50-percent barrier since June 10, 2005 at Charlotte when they connected on 54.8 percent of their attempts in a 69-55 win.

MANY HAPPY RETURNS Since returning from a two-game absence with a sprained left ankle, Cheryl Ford has connected on 40 of her last 65 field goal attempts - 61.5 percent. She is also averaging 17.7 points per game over that span (six games) and has raised her season scoring average to 16.3 points per game.

BREAKING TOO (Electric Boogaloo) During Detroit's current four-game winning streak, the Shock are averaging 12 points per game out of its fast-break opportunities after averaging on 6.3 points on the break over the first eight games of the season.

LUCKY SEVEN Detroit's current four game regular-season winning streak is its longest since a seven-gamer they put together from September 11, 2004 to June 3, 2005

2-2-2 Deanna Nolan has made at least two three pointers in each of the last three games - the longest such streak for a member of the Shock since she did it in four straight games from July 15 - 21, 2004.

DISHING IT OUT The Detroit Shock dished out a season-high 27 assists vs. the Mystics with career-high 9 assists for Katie Smith.

HOME SCHOOLING The Shock has won 12 consecutive regular season home games, a team-record, dating back to July 20, 2005. The Shock's last loss at The Palace was to Indiana on July 17.

MAINTAINING POSSESSION Detroit's nine turnovers vs. Washington are its lowest total of the season, and the fewest the Shock have committed since August 21, 2005 - coincidentally also at home against the Mystics.

Dominate the Paint

The Shock continues to dominate inside in 2006, outscoring all opponents in 2006 except Washington on June 3rd and Los Angeles on June 7th. Detroit outscored Washington today by 10 (48-38). The Shock are 0-2 when they get outscored inside.
