January 25, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Portland Pirates News Release
Springfield, MA - The Portland Pirates, in conjunction with the American Hockey League, announced that Pirates forward Brendan Shinnimin has been named to the Eastern Conference All-Star Team for the AHL All-Star Classic, presented by Turning Stone Resort Casino, today and tomorrow in Utica, New York. Shinnimin will replace Pirates forward Alex Bolduc on the roster, who is unable to participate due to injury.
Shinnimin, a 5-foot-10, 184 pound left wing from Winnipeg, Manitoba, has played in 40 games for Portland this season, tallying nine goals, a team-high 16 assists, and 25 points. The 24 year-old third year pro also made his NHL debut earlier this season, playing two games for the Arizona Coyotes.
Signed to an entry level contract by Arizona in March of 2012, this will be Shinnimin's first AHL All-Star Classic appearance.
Bolduc, a 6-foot-3, 200 pound center from Montreal, Quebec, is Portland's leading scorer this season with 12 goals and 14 assists for 26 points in 35 games. The 29 year-old sustained an upper body injury during Portland's 4-2 victory over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Friday night at Cross Insurance Arena. He did not play in last night's 3-2 overtime win over Bridgeport at Webster Bank Arena. He is listed as day-to-day.
The AHL All-Star Skills Competition takes place at 8:00 p.m. tonight at the Utica Memorial Auditorium. The All-Star Game will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Locally, both the Skills Competition and All-Star Game can be seen live on NESN.
After the All-Star Break, the Pirates get back to action on Friday, January 30 as they continue their seven-game stretch away from home with Game 7 of the VIP Cup Series, presented by VIP Tires and Service, against the Manchester Monarchs from Verizon Wireless Arena. Game time is 7:00 p.m. You can listen to all of the action with the Voice of the Pirates, Jeff Mannix, on the WPEI Portland Pirates Radio Network, beginning with the Pirates Pregame Show at 6:40.
