The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, in collaboration with the Sherbrooke PhÅnix, announced today that the City of Sherbrooke will be hosting the 2020 QMJHL Annual Session and Entry Draft. The announcement was made during a news conference held at the Palais des sports Léopold-Drolet.
The QMJHL Annual Session will be held from June 3 to 5, 2020. The Entry Draft will take place at the Palais des sports Léopold-Drolet on Saturday, June 6th.
"It is with a lot of confidence that we are awarding the Annual Session to the PhÅnix organization and the City of Sherbrooke to host this event. Both entities have proven their ability to host major events," said QMJHL Commissioner, Gilles Courteau. "The Palais des sports Léopold-Drolet is an ideal venue to host this type of event, and it is one of the main reasons why the 2014 and the 2015 editions of the QMJHL Entry Draft were so successful."
The event generates significant media coverage and economic impact for the organization and the city in which it is held, with hundreds of hockey fans, families and prospects flooding hotels and restaurants.
"The PhÅnix is proud to host the QMJHL Annual Session and Entry Draft for the third time. It's a great opportunity for the city of Sherbrooke. This type of event offers great exposure for the club and the city but it's also a golden opportunity for the business community," said Denis Bourque, President and part-owner of the team.
