Cincinnati Commandos News Release
CINCINNATI, OH - The Cincinnati Commandos have landed their trigger man for the 2012 season.
Head coach Billy Back has announced the league MVP Tyler Sheehan has decided to return to the Commandos for his second season.
"For Tyler to turn down his offers to play in the AFL this season and stay home to help us win another Championship is saying something to the city of Cincinnati about what Mr. Whitman, Mr. Napier (owners) and Mr. Buckley (GM) are doing as upper management," said Back. " He's a big, smart quarterback, a great character guy, and a Cincinnati product. For us to sign another team captain, league MVP and a great quarterback is exciting for not only me, but to our entire organization."
The former Bowling Green University and Cincinnati LaSalle star put together a fantastic first indoor season, setting multiple team records. Sheehan tied a CIFL record with nine passing touchdowns against Chicago on June 3.
On the season, he completed 56.8 percent of his passes (117-of-206) for 1,381 yards and 37 touchdowns, while playing in just eight games. He added seven rushing scores en route to leading the Commandos to the undefeated record and its second straight league championship. Sheehan only had nine interceptions.
Sheehan set numerous school records in helping Bowling Green advance to its first bowl game in three years. His 4,051 yards, 375 completions, and 575 attempts all broke university marks, while his 505 yards passing against Kent State is still the highest single-game total for the Falcons.
Following his stellar career at BGSU, Sheehan spent time in camp with the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent.
Cincinnati is also bringing back receiver Kyenes Mincy and running back Andy Stuckert.
The Commandos are coming off back-to-back titles, going 23-1 in that span. The 2012 season brings a new challenge as they will move to the Ultimate Indoor Football League. Playing their home games in the historic Cincinnati Gardens, the Cincinnati Commandos are the longest-tenured indoor football team ever for the city of Cincinnati. Season tickets are currently on-sale through the Gardens box office at 513-631-7793.
