Jupiter Hammerheads News Release

JUPITER, FL - David Washington continued to be a pest for the Hammerheads as his solo home run in the eighth inning ended up being the difference as the Cardinals came away with a 5-3 over Jupiter on Thursday. The win was the Birds' ninth straight win over the Sharks as Palm Beach earned its third straight sweep of a Fins vs. Feathers series.

After Washington's solo blast on Tuesday boosted the Cards to victory, the slugger's solo shot to center field in the eighth inning gave the Cards a 4-1 lead.

The Hammerheads would get two back in the bottom of the eighth on an infield single by Blake Barber and a sac bunt by Juan Avila, but the Cardinals would pick up an insurance run in the ninth and hold on for the victory after Ronnie Shaban tossed a 1-2-3 ninth inning to earn the save.

Palm Beach jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first when an error by the first baseman Noah Perio ended up leading to an unearned run when Mason Katz reached on an infield single with two outs in the frame.

Jupiter starter Cody Crabaugh would have a solid outing in his first start with the Sharks. The righty cruised through the first five innings allowing just the one unearned run on four hits.

In the sixth he allowed a one-out walk to Luke Voit before Washington sliced a double down the left field line to give Palm Beach a 2-1 lead.

That would be the night for Crabaugh as Brad Mincey came into the game. Mason Katz would greet the righty with a single out of the reach of the shortstop to extend the Palm Beach lead to 3-1.

Jupiter's only offense before the two-run eighth inning was provided by Perio who hit a RBI double to left in the bottom of the third inning.

The Hammerheads will hit the road on Friday beginning with a doubleheader against St. Lucie. The team will play single games against the Mets on Saturday and Sunday before returning home for the final Fins vs. Feathers series on Monday.
