November 4, 2007 - Hawaii Winter Baseball 2 (HWB 2)
Honolulu Sharks News Release
Eight of the nine offensive starters in the Honolulu lineup notched at least one base hit as the Sharks rolled 9-3 over the West Oahu CaneFires tonight on the Big Island at Hilo's Francis Wong Stadium. Takumi Kobe led the way for Honolulu (14-14-1) with four RBIs on two hits while teammate Brandon Snyder notched two hits including a solo home run.
Sharks' starter Jimmy James (2-2, 3.33 ERA) took the victory after holding West Oahu to one run on three hits through five innings through which the Boston Red Sox prospect struck out seven.
Jamie Hoffmann paced the CaneFires (8-19-1), going a perfect 3-3 at the dish with all three West Oahu RBIs. Starter Keisaku Itokazu (3-1, 3.34) was saddled with the loss, allowing six runs on eight hits through three frames on the bump.
West Oahu's loss coupled with the North Shore Honu victory over the Waikiki BeachBoys allowed North Shore to clinch the HWB West Division title, and the automatic berth in the HWB Championship Game on Nov. 19.
Both squads return to Francis Wong Stadium tomorrow at 3 p.m. for the finale of the three-game series. The contest marks the final HWB game to be played on the Big Island for the remainder of the 2007 campaign.
