
Several Phantoms to Attend Flyers Prospect Camp

Several members of last year's Adirondack Phantoms team as well as others who are expected to crack the roster for this coming season will be attending the annual Philadelphia Flyers Prospect Camp beginning Monday, July 9 in Voorhees, NJ.
The Philadelphia Flyers will welcome 43 players to The Virtua Center Flyers Skate Zone in Voorhees,NJ for their 2012 Prospect Camp from July 9-15. The event features six on-ice sessions at Flyers Skate Zone that are all open to the public, as well as the annual Trial on the Isle in Stone Harbor, NJon Wednesday, July 11.
The camp features many of the Flyers' youngest prospects, including several players selected in the NHL Entry Draft over the past three seasons, as well as several invited amateur players. Many of the attendees spent all or part of last season with the American Hockey League's Adirondack Phantoms, while others are in the midst of careers in major junior or collegiate hockey.
The players from last year's Phantoms team who will be working with the Flyers' coaches in various drills, practices and scrimmages at the mid-summer camp will include Jason Akeson, Tyler Brown, Shane Harper, Blake Kessel, Oliver Lauridsen, Matt Mangene, Brandon Manning, Derek Mathers, Tye McGinn and Luke Pither.

Here is some background on some of the prospects who played for Adirondack last season:
22-year-old Jason Akeson from Orleans, Ontario was the highest scoring player on the Phantoms last season with 14 goals, 41 assists for 55 points after leading the OHL in points the previous season with 108 as a Kitchener Ranger.
Wasaga Beach, Ontario native Tyler Brown, 22, turned it on in the second-half of his rookie season with Adirondack scoring eight goals and nine assists on the year.
23-year-old Shane Harper from Valencia, California had 13 goals and 27 points in his second professional season which was highlighted by an overtime game-winner on January 6 in front of over 45,000 fans at the Outdoor Classic in Philadelphia.
Tye McGinn of Fergus, Ontario is the middle of three hockey brothers. The oldest, Jaime, plays for the Colorado Avalanche of the NHL. The youngest, Brock, was just drafted in the second round by the Carolina Hurricanes organization. 21-year-old Tye had 12 goals and 18 points in his rookie campaign.
22-year-old Brandon Manning of Prince George, British Columbia was hampered by injury at the start of the season by thrived by the end as he broke in with the Flyers to make his NHL debut in a four-game stint with the big club.
Others at the camp will include goalie Cal Heeter from Ohio State who could be playing in Adirondack this season. And also Flyers' 2012 first round selection Scott Laughton of the Oshawa Generals of the OHL as well as second round selection Anthony Stolarz who will be a goalie at the University of Nebraska-Omaha this coming season.
