Mahoning Valley Phantoms News Release
FRISCO, Texas (Tuesday, March 18, 2008) - The North American Hockey League announced on Monday evening that Mahoning Valley Phantoms first-year forward Stefan Salituro earned the Player of the Week award in the North division.
The 17-year-old notched four goals and three assists while helping lead the Phantoms to a three game weekend sweep of the Traverse City North Stars. The wins helped the team clinch a playoff spot and secure second place in the division - meaning the Phantoms will get the home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs.
"Salli is a player we picked up for a reason," said Phantoms head coach Bob Mainhardt. "He's a gifted, impact player who just took some time to work into our system and into our game plan. He's worked tremendously hard, broken out and has played the way we knew he could play recently."
Salituro has now scored at least one point in each of the last six games, while helping the Phantoms win six of their last seven. The Willowdale, Ontario native is now ninth on the team in scoring with 12 goals and 18 assists.
Salituro and the Phantoms (33-17-4, 70 points) are back in action this weekend when they host the third place Alpena Ice Diggers at the Ice Zone in Boardman. Game times on Friday and Saturday night are set for 7:15 p.m. Catch all the action broadcast live on the web at www.mvpphantoms.com.
The Mahoning Valley Phantoms are owned by the B.J. Alan Company - Phantom Fireworks, located in Youngstown, Ohio.
