Binghamton Senators News Release
LAST WEEK: Binghamton opened their fifth anniversary season at home on Saturday, October 7, 2006 at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 7TH vs. SYRACUSE (4-1 W): Goalie KELLY GUARD stole the show in the season opener for Binghamton, stopping 25 of 26 shots to lead the Senators to a 4-1 victory. GUARD was named first star of the game. Right wing JEFF HEEREMA picked up right where he left off last season, scoring the Senators first goal of the season at 2:39 of the first period. Rookie left wing ARTTU LUTTINEN scored his first two AHL points (1g, 1a) against Syracuse, earning the second star of the game. Center BOBBY ROBINS turned in two points (1g, 1a), including the game-winner against Syracuse. Left wing Darcy Verot scored the lone goal for Syracuse. Both teams blanked on the power play, as Binghamton was 0/6 and Syracuse was 0/4. Right wing RYAN VESCE collected his 50th AHL assist on HEEREMA's first period goal. Defenseman TOMAS MALEC played in his 250th AHL game on Saturday night.
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 8th vs. BRIDGEPORT (3-5 L): Right Wing JEFF HEEREMA scored his 250th point on his first of two goals against the Sound Tigers. Bridgeport jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period. After ARTTU LUTTINEN put Binghamton on the scoreboard with his second marker of the season, HEEREMA found the net to bring Binghamton within one point of Bridgeport. HEEREMA tallied his second goal of the night at 13:32 of the third to once again get Binghamton to within one point of Bridgeport. The Senators could not find the net in the final minutes despite several good looks and a one-man advantage. The Sound Tigers added an empty netter at 19:46 to seal the game.
THIS WEEK: Binghamton travels to Rochester this Friday to take on the Americans for the first time this season. The Senators then host Rochester on Saturday night before heading to Philadelphia to take on the Phantoms at the Wachovia Center on Sunday. The Senators play five road games before returning home.
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 13TH @ ROCHESTER (7:35): The Senators went 4-3-0-1 against Rochester last season, to bring their all-time record to 16-8-3-2-1 against Rochester. Binghamton has won three out of last four against Rochester.
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 14TH vs. ROCHESTER (7:05): The Senators went 4-3-0-1 against Rochester last season, to bring their all-time record to 16-8-3-2-1 against Rochester. Binghamton has won three out of last four against Rochester.
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 15TH @ PHILADELPHIA (7:05): Binghamton posted a 3-2-3-0 record against the Phantoms last season. The Senators hold a decisive 11-4-0-4-1 advantage all-time against Philadelphia.
SENS IN THE COMMUNITY: The second annual Binghamton Senators Charity Golf Classic is slated for Tuesday, October 10th at Endwell Greens. The golf outing raises money for Family Enrichment Network. Each crew of four golfers is assign on Binghamton Senator. A steak dinner follows the golf tournament.
The Senators will once again participate in the "Light the Night Walk", which is organized by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to help raise awareness about blood cancers. This event takes place at Broome Community College on Thursday, October 12th at 5:30 p.m.
Several players will make an appearance at the Broome County Public Library for Teen Read Week on Thursday, October 19th at 6:00 p.m.
Ticket packages and individual tickets can be purchased at the Sens' front office on the third floor of the Arena. The office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Tickets can also be purchased by calling 722-SENS.
