OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Aug. 5, 2010) - The Ottawa Senators announced today the club has signed forward Corey Cowick to an entry-level contract.
Cowick, the Senators' sixth-round pick (160th overall) in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, recently attended his second development camp with the club.
The 21-year-old completed his final year of Canadian Hockey League eligibility with the Ontario Hockey League's Ottawa 67's in 2009-10, registering 21 points (15 goals, six assists) and 33 penalty minutes while being limited to 27 games due to injury. Cowick sustained a shoulder separation in a 67's pre-season game in Kingston on Aug. 30, 2009. He made his regular-season debut on Jan. 8 at home against Belleville and did not miss any action (including 12 post-season contests) following his return.
The native of Gloucester, Ont., helped the 67's eliminate the Niagara IceDogs in five games in the opening round of the OHL playoffs, scoring four times, including the game-winning goal and two shorthanded markers in the decisive fifth game of the series. He ranked first among 67's in post-season goals with nine, tied for first with 27 penalty minutes and finished third in overall team scoring with 12 points.
Cowick concluded his four-year CHL career with 64 goals, 50 assists and 214 penalty minutes in 225 games. He also added 17 goals and six assists in 43 post-season contests. He played the first two seasons of his OHL career with the Oshawa Generals before being traded to Ottawa in June 2008.
