OTTAWA - Ottawa Senators general manager John Muckler today announced the club has exercised one-year options on the contracts of forwards Josh Langfeld and Denis Hamel.
Hamel split the season between Ottawa and the club's American Hockey League affiliate, the Binghamton Senators. He appeared in 78 AHL games, recording 67 points (29-38) and 116 penalty minutes. Hamel led Binghamton in goals, assists and points and was named to the AHL First All-Star team. His 67 points during the 2003-04 regular season are the most points scored in a single season in B-Sens' franchise history.
The 27-year-old native of Lachute, Québec also appeared in five games with Ottawa without recording a point. The left-winger has played 135 career NHL games, recording 22 points (13-9) and 67 penalty minutes with Ottawa and Buffalo. He was originally signed as a free agent by the Senators on July 5, 2003.
Langfeld, 27, split the 2003-04 season between Ottawa and Binghamton. He appeared in 38 games with Ottawa, recording a career high seven goals, 10 assists, 17 points and 16 penalty minutes.
In 30 regular season games with Binghamton, Langfeld recorded 27 points (13-14) and 25 penalty minutes and was named to the PlanetUSA AHL All-Star team. He also appeared in two AHL playoff games. The native of Fridley, Minnesota was originally drafted by the Senators in the third-round (66th overall) of the 1997 NHL Draft.
