BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Barons fans have spoken and Birmingham will wear Stormtrooper themed jerseys Saturday, August 15 on Star Wars Night as they host the Montgomery Biscuits for a 6:30 p.m. matchup at Regions Field.
Thanks to the power of social media, over 1,500 users voiced their opinions via the Birmingham Barons Facebook page and picked between three jersey designs. The majority of voters decided they want to see the team sport the popular black and white armor of the Galactic Empire's soldiers, while the orange Rebel Alliance and R2-D2 themed jerseys could not make the jump to light speed, finishing second and third, respectively.
"The response to our online poll was amazing, and we are excited to continue to cater to our fans as we build our promotional schedule for the 2015 season," Barons General Manager Jonathan Nelson said. "After seeing the overwhelming success of this interactive poll, I believe Barons fans can expect to participate in many similar social media opportunities in the near future."
To go along with the festivities, a collection of your characters from the 501st Legion will be on-hand for photographs and interactions, in-game contests will carry movie themes and the post-game fireworks show will be set to the music of the series.
As requested and inquired by many fans, the jerseys worn by the team will be available for purchase. The uniform tops are set to be auctioned off with the proceeds to benefit KultureCity, whose mission is to create a world where all individuals with autism and their families are accepted and treated equally.
"We at KultureCity, want to sincerely thank the Birmingham Barons for standing with us," founder Julian Maha said. "Together we can create a world where all children are accepted and treated equally."
