MONTREAL - The Montreal Impact tied FC Tampa Bay 3-3, Wednesday night, at Saputo Stadium.
Striker Eduardo Sebrango (46th and 75th) scored two goals in the second half, his 49th and 50th career goals with the Impact. Midfielder Ian Westlake scored his second goal in as many games (54th minute) and forward Ali Gerba tied a team record with three assists.
Tampa Bay left Montreal with a point after the team scored twice in the last 10 minutes of the match. With the score at 3-1 in favour of the Impact, striker Aaron King reduced the scoring to one goal at the 85th minute, with his seventh goal of the season, and midfielder Mozzi Gyorio tied the game at the 90th minute. Shane Hill had opened the scoring for Tampa Bay at the 38th minute.
"This result is hard to accept," said Impact sporting director and head coach Nick De Santis. "We didn't play a good first half, with too many missed passes in the offensive third. We came back from behind in the second half, with more energy, a good offensive cohesion and we scored three goals. It is the lack of concentration in the last minutes of the game that cost us this win. At the crossroad we're at right now, we can't stop and we need to continue working hard to win games."
"It is very frustrating for the team," said Impact team captain Nevio Pizzolitto. "We controlled the game before letting them score two goals at the end. It is really hard to take, even if we played a good game. I think that everyone showed up and worked hard tonight."
"This tie feels like a loss," added defender Simon Gatti. "This tie is really disappointing because we had one of our best performances lately. At the end of the game, we made too many mistakes when we weren't under pressure. We must keep believing for the next games."
At the 38th minutre, following a corner that goalkeeper Greg Sutton tried to catch, Hill scored his second goal of the season in an empty net.
At the 49th minute, Gerba, who entered the game at the start of the second half replacing Mignane Diouf, made a cross to the near post for Eduardo Sebrango, who deflected the ball behind Tampa Bay goalkeeper Evan Newton.
Less than 10 minutes later, Gerba gave the ball to midfielder Ian Westlake, who beat Tampa Bay goalkeeper to his right with a shot from 20 meters out.
Sebrango, who started his 200th career game in North American second division, scored his second goal of the game at the 75th minute. After receiving a pass from Gerba behind the defense, Sebrango lobed the ball over the opposing goalkeeper.
At the 85th minute, Tampa Bay scored its second goal of the game when a cross on the ground from Frankie San Filippo went through the 18-yard box to find Aaron King, who completed the play while standing near the fast post.
Tampa Bay midfielder Mozzi Gyorio scored the last goal of the game on a 20-meter free kick that hit the crossbar before entering in the net.
Montreal was playing its third game in 11 days.
Goalkeeper Bill Gaudette, midfielders David Testo, Leonardo Di Lorenzo and Antonio Ribeiro, as well as forwards Marco Terminesi and Reda Agourram missed the game due to injuries.
