NEW YORK - The new single-elimination Audi 2019 MLS Cup Playoffs continued to offer dramatic finishes on Wednesday, as Toronto FC and Seattle Sounders FC both scored late goals to advance to the Conference Finals. The remaining two teams to advance will be determined on Thursday in the remaining Conference Semifinals matches.
No. 4 Toronto FC began the night with a 2-1 victory over No. 1 New York City FC, becoming only the second road team in eight matches to win during the Audi 2019 MLS Cup Playoffs. Alejandro Pozuelo scored the game-winning goal in the 90th minute with a Panenka penalty kick for his second goal of the match.
Toronto will travel to face the winner of tomorrow's Conference Semifinals match between Atlanta United and the Philadelphia Union at Mercedes-Benz Stadium (8 p.m. ET, ESPN2 / ESPN Deportes / TSN4 / TVA Sports). Either Atlanta or Philadelphia would host Toronto in the Conference Finals on Wednesday, Oct. 30.
Audi 2019 MLS Cup Playoffs Media CenterNo. 2 Seattle Sounders FC outlasted No. 3 Real Salt Lake 2-0 at CenturyLink Field for its second consecutive home victory thanks to goals from a pair of FIFA World Cup veterans in Nicolás Lodeiro and Gustav Svensson. The match was the final in a heralded career for retiring RSL goalkeeper Nick Rimando.
Sounders FC await the winner of tomorrow's contest between the Los Angeles Football Club and the LA Galaxy at Banc of California Stadium (10:30 p.m. ET, ESPN / ESPN Deportes / TSN4 / TVA Sports), with the Galaxy never losing in the El Trafico rivalry. LAFC would host the Western Conference Finals on Tuesday, Oct. 29 should they prevail tomorrow, while Seattle would host if the Galaxy advance.
