Season Ends: The Tulsa Oilers saw their most successful playoff season in 17 years come to an end on Saturday night in a 5-4 loss at Bossier-Shreveport. The Oilers lost their Berry Conference semi-final series to the Mudbugs three games to two.
To The Wire: For the second straight series this postseason, the Oilers went the distance in a playoff round. They won game three against Bossier-Shreveport 3-2 on a game winning goal by Evan Kotsopoulos and 44 save performance by Ian Keserich. Bossier-Shreveport answered back with a 3-2 overtime in game four on Friday and then held off an Oilers rally in game five. Bossier-Shreveport led 4-1 heading into the third period. Goals by Kotsopoulos and Mike Beausoleil less than a minute apart got the Oilers within a goal. Even after falling behind 5-3 the Oilers didn't quit and Chad Costello scored a power play goal with 4:31 left to give the Oilers their last chance at a frantic comeback that came up short.
Still Leading: Through the first two rounds of the playoffs, Costello leads the CHL in playoff scoring with five goals and 14 assists for 19 points. The top three scorers (Todd Robinson and Sebastien Thinel both of Odessa) are all out of the playoffs now. Konrad Reeder of the Rapid City Rush has 13 points on four goals and nine assists is the leading scorer among the remaining four teams.
Specialties: Beausoleil is tied for the playoff lead in power play goals with four, and John Mori of the Oilers is tied for the CHL playoff lead in shorthanded goals with two.
Still Standing: The Berry Conference best-of-seven final series pits the Allen Americans against Bossier-Shreveport. The Turner Conference match-up is Rapid City against the Colorado Eagles. The winners of those two series will meet for the Ray Miron Presidents' Cup.
