FC Edmonton News Release
Edmonton Alberta (February 7, 2013) - These days it's rare for a professional soccer team to make it through a season in the City of Champions, let alone three. But that's exactly what FC Edmonton has done - as it prepares to kick off the 2013 season - and it's in no small part thanks to a core group of supporters who have been with the club since the beginning.
They are the fans who have purchased season tickets for all three seasons and they will forever be members of FC Edmonton's newly-formed Founders Club.
"I bought season tickets because it meant a lot to me to have a local soccer team to follow and support," said 37-year-old James Dutczak, FCE's first official member of the Founders Club. "I enjoy playing soccer, both my wife and I enjoy watching it, and the atmosphere at the games is fantastic!"
Any fans that purchase three consecutive years of FC Edmonton season tickets, whether they're retroactive to 2011 or just jumping onboard this season, will gain membership into the Founders Club and will get a dedicated brick in a potential future stadium.
"The Founders Club is a way for FC Edmonton to thank our fans for having shown, and continuing to show, a strong commitment to the team and the Beautiful Game," said FCE GM Rod Proudfoot. "We hope that by creating the Founders Club, our numbers will continue to grow and we'll get that much closer to a stadium that the whole community can enjoy."
Dutczak credits the fact that the club is locally owned by brothers Tom and Dave Fath and the emphasis placed on developing local talent as one of the major reasons why he chose to support the Eddies beginning in 2011.
The other reason is simple; atmosphere. Between the average fan and the hardcores in the Edmonton Supporters Group (www.edmontonsoccerfans.com), Dutczak said a Sunday afternoon spent at the soccer pitch is time well spent.
"The atmosphere at the games is fantastic," he said. "Particularly how the overhanging roof at Clarke spreads the supporters group's singing. It's nothing like it looks on television - way more intense! Plus the beer is pretty cheap, that's never a bad thing."
Fans can join Dutczak and the rest of the supporters by buying a 2013 season ticket. With the promise of new stands on the East side of the pitch, a new coaching staff, new players along with core returning veterans and an exciting new format to the NASL schedule - 2013 is bound to be a banner year for the Eddies!
