Seals Acquire Tyson Bomberry
(San Diego, CA) - The San Diego Seals announced today that the team has acquired defenseman Tyson Bomberry and a 2020 fifth-round draft pick from the New York Riptide in exchange for the Seals 2020 second-round draft pick and the rights to defenseman Adrian Sorichetti.
"Tyson is a defender Coach Greer and I are very familiar with from our time coaching him in Six Nations Junior A," said General Manager and Head Coach Patrick Merrill. "He had a great college career at Syracuse, was the 10th overall pick in the 2019 Entry Draft and has the talent to be a strong defender in the NLL for many years to come. He will fit in well in San Diego and we are excited to welcome him to the Seals family."
Bomberry, 23, was the tenth overall selection in the 2019 NLL Entry Draft and one of the most sought-after defensive prospects in the draft. He appeared in 11 games for New York in his rookie season recording 29 loose balls and four caused turnovers.
"I'm really excited to be with the Seals," said Bomberry. "I believe that there is a very talented roster in San Diego, and we could build something very special next year. To quote Austin Staats, 'I'm ready and I'm coming'."
The Ohsweken, Ontario native was a standout defenseman at Syracuse, ending his career ranking fifth in Syracuse history in caused turnovers (49). A two-time team captain, Bomberry was a USILA Scholar All-American as a senior and was a two-time member of the ACC All-Academic team. He ended his career with the Orange with 49 caused turnovers, 128 ground balls, two goals and three assists.
Bomberry has enjoyed success throughout his career, including a silver medal with the Iroquois Nationals at the 2019 FIL World Indoor Lacrosse Championship. He also won three Minto Cups with the Six Nations Arrows - one under Seals coaches Patrick Merrill and Bill Greer - in Ontario Junior A. He was teammates on the Arrows with currents Seals players Austin Staats and Oliver Bolsterli.
The San Diego Seals will return to Pechanga Arena for the 2020-21 season this winter, the NLL's 35th anniversary season. Place your season ticket membership deposit today at SealsLax.com.
