SD Loyal Travels to Take on Las Vegas Lights FC

August 31, 2020 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
San Diego Loyal News Release

SD Loyal was scheduled to face Las Vegas Lights FC Aug. 8 within the restart calendar after the stoppage of play due to COVID-19. Coach Landon Donovan's team made the trip to the desert and returned to San Diego without playing the match. A member of the Las Vegas Lights FC tested positive for the virus during the weekly testing protocols. The match was postponed. It's been nearly a month and now the two clubs get to face each other for the third and final time in the regular season in a Group B match up.

A few things have changed since the last time the clubs met in July. SD Loyal has earned one point in its four matches after playing to a scoreless tie at Orange County SC this past weekend. It had a three-match losing streak while going scoreless in two of those games. SD Loyal enters this match with a 3-4-3 record and 12 points, sitting in third place in the group standings with six matches remaining in the regular season. SD Loyal has then also had a postponed match against LA Galaxy II due to the opponents having positive tests. Donovan added a forward, Miguel Berry, to try and help boost its offense.

Las Vegas Lights FC has since the July 25 match gone with a 2-4-1 under new head coach Frank Yallop. It comes into the Wednesday's match with a 2-4-2 record and eight points, sitting in last place in the group.
