Pennsylvania Rebellion News Release
Washington, PA - The Pennsylvania Rebellion and the Scrap Yard Dawgs met for the first time ever tonight at CONSOL Energy Park in Washington, PA. It took extra innings for the Dawgs to outlast the Rebellion, 3-1, and earn the first win in franchise history.
The Rebellion were the first team on the score sheet when a groundout to second by Left Fielder Alexa Peterson scored Kayla Winkfield and gave the Rebellion a 1-0 lead. It would be the only run of the game for PA.
The score would remain the same until the top of the 6th inning when Scrap Yard Third Baseman Britt Vonk reached based on an error by Rebellion Third Baseman Whitney Arion. Von came in to score on a base hit by Center Fielder KiKi Stokes and that tied the game at 1-1.Â
Both offenses were unable to push across the go-ahead run in the late innings, so the game advanced into extra frames.Â
It was in the 9th inning when the Scrap Yard Dawgs finally broke through. After a single by First Baseman Amanda Fama, Catcher Amanda Chidester pelted a 2-run home run to left and gave the Dawgs the lead for good.Â
The fans on hand this evening witnessed a pitchers duel throughout the game between the Rebellion Pitcher Emily Weiman and Scrap Yard Dawgs Pitcher Sarah Nevins. Weiman retired the first ten Dawgs she faced to start the ballgame. She pitched into sixth inning before being relieved, but not before tallying 5.1 innings pitched, giving up just one run (Unearned), and striking out seven.Â
Sarah Nevins picked up the win by tossing a complete game for the Dawgs. She threw all 9 innings and allowed just one run and four hits while striking out five Rebellion players.
Powerhandz Player of the Game honors tonight were awarded to Amanda Chidester for her clutch 2-run homer to break the tie in the 9th and give the Dawgs their first victory.
The Rebellion and the Scrap Yard Dawgs will battle again tomorrow night in the second game of a three game series. First pitch is at 7:05pm.
