BLAINE, Minn. (July 27, 2011) - The NSC Minnesota Stars and Sporting Kansas City have agreed to a loan that sends Scott Lorenz back to Minnesota for the remainder of the North American Soccer League season. Lorenz began his professional career in 2010 with the Stars before impressing on trial at Sporting during the offseason. Per team policy, financial terms of the deal were not released.
A 24-year-old left-sided player, Lorenz made 19 appearances and 16 starts in the regular season in the USSF D2 Pro League last season, providing one assist. He also started both of the Stars' playoff games. He made one start for Kansas City in an early-season loss at Chicago. He also started five matches in the MLS Reserve League and two in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup.
"I'm excited to come back," Lorenz said. "I'm looking forward to getting some game time and helping the team, and I think it'll be a good experience for me."
Though Lorenz played exclusively as a defender for the Stars in 2010 but could feature in the midfield as well. The Barrington, Ill., native played every outfield position during his collegiate career at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
"Scott was an important member of our team last year, and I'm excited to have him back on the field and in the locker room," Stars head coach Manny Lagos said. "We're at a point in our season where we felt a move for a player with MLS experience and experience in our league could help us in our push for the playoffs."
Lorenz will arrive in Minnesota Wednesday afternoon and begin training with the club Thursday afternoon. He could see his first action for the Stars on August 6 when the club visits the Montreal Impact.
