New Mexico Scorpions News Release
[RIO RANCHO, N.M.]- The New Mexico Scorpions, proud member of the Central Hockey League (CHL), are excited to announce former CHL Goaltender of the Year, Scott Reid has been signed to a two-way contract with the Milwaukee Admirals of the American Hockey League (AHL). If Reid is sent down, the Scorpions retain his rights at the AA level of hockey, in accordance with the teams' affiliation agreement.
Scorpions' Head Coach Ray Edwards coached Reid for two years while with San Angelo. The 29-year-old goalie won the CHL's 2003-04 Most Outstanding Goalie Award and was runner-up for the same award the following season with the Saints.
"I think Coach Edwards is a great guy to play for," said Reid. "If things do not work out in Milwaukee, I am very comfortable knowing I will be able to play for a great coach in a great new arena and an amazing ownership group."
Reid is currently skating in the National Hockey League Nashville Predator's camp, but he is expected to spend most of his time early in the season in Milwaukee as on of their goaltenders.
"At some point I envision Scott spending some time with the Scorpions," said Edwards. "No matter when we get him we know he will help us win games. He is a premier goalie at this level and will also learn a lot by being with Milwaukee."
Once Reid arrives in Milwaukee, he will get acquainted with another Scorpions player. Rookie Mike Falk has also been invited to the AHL team camp. This is just the start of what should be a great relationship with the Admirals.
"I am very excited to have our players in their camp," said Edwards. "I hope we have players that continue to grow and will get the shot at the next level with Milwaukee."
The Scorpions will christen the new state-of-the-art Santa Ana Star Center on Friday, October 27, when they face the Arizona Sundogs at 7:35 p.m. This season the Scorpions feature 22 weekend home games. The schedule can also be viewed and printed by visiting www.scorpionshockey.com/schedule.
