San Diego Sunfire News Release
SAN DIEGO - The San Diego SunFire opened the second half of the season with a bang notching a 36-14 win over the Temecula Scorpions on Saturday night at La Jolla High School. Check below for the complete Conference standings.
San Diego, which improved to 2-4 in WPFL play, won more than just a game on Saturday. The Scorpions have some former members of the SunFire's team on their roster and staff. SunFire owner Donna Fox says, that fact was duly noted by the hundreds of fans in attendance. "I've always had faith in this coaching staff and these players. One of the SunFire's supporters called it poetic justice â I say it was just a game we could not lose."
San Diego opened the scoring with 2 straight touchdowns in the first quarter. The first a 63 yard td and 2 pt. conversion by Railene Ritzberg. Jasmine Sveum made good on a 4 yd run to put the SunFire up 14 to 0. The Scorpions were held scoreless in the 1st quarter, but opened the scoring in the 2nd qtr with an 98 yd td pass from Carrie Perry to Desiree Barry. Sonja Baczynski made good on the point after. Next it was Melissa Simmons on a 3 yd td run with Baczynski converting the extra point. That would be the final tally of the game for the Scorpions. The SunFire scored three straight touchdowns to secure the win. In the Second quarter, Aisha Ruffo found Carmen Cruz for a 30 yard td. Sveum made good on the 2 point conversion. Third quarter, Ritzberg ran for a 22 yard td. Ruffo connected with Cruz for the 2 point conversion. Then it was Ruffo to Angela Corinne for the final td of the game.
