Schedule announced for CBA's 61st season
Published on September 29, 2006 under Continental Basketball Association 1 (CBA 1) News Release
ALBANY, NY (September 29, 2006) - The oldest professional basketball league in the world will begin its 61st consecutive season on Thursday, November 30, as the Continental Basketball Association tips off the 2006-07 campaign with nine games scheduled for opening weekend.
The ten-team league will be divided into the American (Albany, Atlanta, Indiana, Minot, and Pittsburgh) and National (Butte, Great Falls, Utah, Vancouver, and Yakima) Conferences, and play a total of 240 regular season games. The 16-week season concludes on Sunday, March 25, and the CBA Playoffs commence on Wednesday, March 28.
"When faced with the building of the schedule each year, the CBA tries to do several things to insure success for out member teams, "said Director of Operations Dennis Truax. "We look to maximize weekend dates for our franchises and to keep travel costs to a minimum. I feel we have been able to do that this season and this schedule is a reflection of this. I think the fans will be happy with this schedule and will be out to support their teams."
The season officially launches when the expansion Atlanta Krunk Wolverines welcome the Indiana Alleycats to the John H Lewis Gymnasium at Morris Brown College in Atlanta on Thursday, November 30. The opening weekend docket also features the Vancouver Dragons traveling to Yakima to face the 2005-06 CBA Champion Sun Kings in the Yakima Valley SunDome on Friday, December 1. Also on December 1 the Albany Patroons host the Pittsburgh Xplosion and the Minot Skyrockets travel to Utah to take on the Eagles in their inaugural game in the CBA. The battle of Montana ensues also on December 1 as the Great Falls Explorers travel to Butte to face the Daredevils.
On Saturday, December 2 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the Xplosion mark the CBA's return to Pittsburgh for the first time since the 1994-95 season against the Albany Patroons. On December 3, the Minot Skyrockets host the Utah Eagles in their home opener of the 2006-07 season. The Albany Patroons help the Great Falls Explorers open their season on December 5 and the Vancouver Dragons on December 9. The Indiana Alleycats are the last team to play at home, December 10 against the Atlanta Krunk Wolverines.
On February 6, the Butte Daredevils will host the 23rd CBA All-Star Classic, which features the Long Distance Shootout, the Slam Dunk Competition, and the CBA All-Star Game.
Due to the overwhelming success of last year's Christmas-night game, the Albany Patroons will again play on Christmas against the Indiana Alleycats this season. The Indiana Alleycats stay in the holiday mode when they host the Minot Skyrockets on New Year's Eve, Sunday, December 31.
Following is a complete regular season schedule by date, which can also be accessed at www.cbahoopsonline.com.
The CBA recently completed its 60th anniversary season on March 27 with the Yakama Sun Kings defeating the Gary Steelheads in a best-of-three-game series. That series featured the CBA's 2006 Player of the Year, Anthony Goldwire (Sun Kings), and the CBA's 2006 Coach of the Year, Jaren Jackson (Steelheads).
