Schaumburg Flyers News Release

Schaumburg, IL - Pitching has never been a question with the Pilots (3-7) this season and it certainly wasn't on Sunday afternoon against the Railcats (4-7).

Each Schaumburg pitcher threw a quality start in the weekend series with Gary and Dustin Glant (2-1) kept that going with a seven inning performance, giving up just two runs. Both came in the top of the third inning, part of a four hit frame for the Railcats, but Glant settled down after that to earn his second win of the year. The righty allowed just three more hits in the remainder of his start.

The bullpen was just as impressive with Reid Price tossing a scoreless eighth with two strikeouts to end the inning. Then Matt Elliott came on to record his second save of the series, setting the Gary hitters down in order in the ninth.

On the offensive end, the Pilots missed plenty of opportunities, leaving ten men on base. But Schaumburg also collected a season high 13 hits in the win and just enough runs to edge out Gary at Alexian Field.

The Pilots scored their first run in the bottom of the first when Richard Mercado tripled to deep center. After Nathan Price popped out to Gary third baseman Jeff Beachum, Mike Mooney sent a line drive into left field to plate Mercado.

The other two Schaumburg runs came in the fourth with Mike Mooney knocking a double down the left field line. Andre Marshall stepped up and laced a triple over the head of Railcats right fielder Cristian Guerrero to plate Mooney. Directly after Tom Fitzgerald hit a rope into left field, scoring Marshall from third easily.

The Pilots open up a three game set against the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks on Memorial Day. Before first pitch, head out to the Principal Financial Group Family Fun Fest right outside Alexian Field from 3-6 PM. There will be inflatable bounce houses, hitting cages, and even a traveling minor league baseball museum to check out.

First pitch is scheduled for 6 PM on Monday night. Join Alex Perlman and Chris Lobosco on 1410 WRMN and flyersbaseball.com for all the action as the Pilots take on the Redhawks. The Schaumburg Pilots Pregame Show gets rolling at 5:45 PM with the game to follow.
