Schaumburg can't open road trip with a win

Schaumburg Flyers News Release

Winnipeg, MB - The Pilots (4-10) arrived in Winnipeg fresh and ready for a seven game road trip. But the result of Friday night's game wasn't the way Schaumburg wanted to start things off with a 6-4 loss to the Goldeyes (9-6).

Schaumburg starter Alain Quijano (0-2) took the mound coming off an eight inning, two run performance that featured a no hitter into the sixth inning. But Quijano was not as sharp tonight, surrendering five runs on nine hits in 3.2 innings.

Friday night was a classic tale of "too little, too late." The Pilots got on the board with a Chris Schultz RBI single in the third and then scored their second run of the night on a Travis Brown double in the fifth.

In the ninth down 6-2, Brandon Newton walked to start off the inning, followed by a Mike Mooney two run homer deep to left. But that was all the Schaumburg lineup could manage at Canwest Park.

The Schaumburg bullpen was again phenomenal. The only blemish was a Dee Brown solo home run given up in the fifth by Brian McCullough. After that McCullough and Ryan Gehring teamed up to allow just one hit the rest of the way.

The Goldeyes and Pilots continue their three game set at 6 PM Saturday night.

As always, join Alex Perlman on 1410 WRMN and flyersbaseball.com for complete coverage. The Schaumburg Pilots Pregame Show starts at 5:45 with the game to follow.
