Scarborough Shooting Stars News Release
The Scarborough Shooting Stars of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Monday that they have re-signed team Canada forward Kalif Young. The 6-foot-9 forward led the Shooting Stars in total rebounds (139) and blocks (19) during their inaugural season where he averaged 8 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2 assists in 26.7 minutes per game through 21 games.
"We are very excited to have Kalif return to Scarborough after a fantastic season in Germany," said Shooting Stars general manager Brady Heslip. "Kalif has represented our national team incredibly well in all of his international appearances and gained valuable professional experience in the process. He brings a level of physicality and competitiveness that our team will rely on this season, and we are looking forward to him embracing a leadership role as a core returning player".
The Providence College graduate is currently playing for Bayreuth of the Germany BBL where he is averaging 7.7 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1 steal in 25.1 minutes per game through 24 games. The Toronto native also suited up for team Canada last summer, where he helped his national team qualify for the 2023 FIBA World Cup. Young's best performance was against Venezuela where he scored 14 points and grabbed four boards.
Following an impressive inaugural season, the Shooting Stars open their 2023 season on May 26 at the CAA Centre, in a rematch of last year's CEBL championship game verse the Brampton Honey Badgers. Scarborough welcomes the Winnipeg Sea Bears to the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre for their first home game on June 2.
