Sauk, Larkin and Adams receive conference finals honors

CHICAGO - Louisville quarterback MATT SAUK, Louisville wide receiver/defensive back MICHAEL LARKIN and Memphis wide receiver/defensive back TERRELL ADAMS have been named the Offensive Player, U.S. Army Ironman and ADT Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, for the Conference Finals of the 2005 ArenaCup Playoffs.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Sauk (6-1, 225, Utah State), in his fourth season, threw 10 touchdown passes against Florida as Louisville advanced to the 2005 ArenaCup in Bossier City, Louisana. His 10 touchdown passes set a new af2 record for passing scores in a postseason game. He finished the night with only five incomplete passes, completing 27-of-32 passes for 286 yards and the 10 touchdowns. He led the Fire to 42-second half points and an upset of the top seeded and defending ArenaCup Champion Firecats. Sauk was especially effective near the goalline, as eight of his ten touchdowns came on passes from 15 yards and closer. Sauk broke the af2 regular season records for passing yards (4,489), passing touchdowns (99) and completions (408) and is continuing his superb play in the postseason. Sauk earned Offensive Player of the Week honors in Week 18 of the regular season.

U.S. ARMY IRONMAN OF THE WEEK

Larkin (5-9, 175, Miami of Ohio), in his rookie season, made game changing plays to help the Louisville Fire win their eighth consecutive game and third consecutive road playoff game to advance to their first ArenaCup in franchise history. Larkin caught five passes for 45 yards and two touchdowns. His second score stretched the Fire lead to 23 points late in the third quarter. After Florida couldn't handle a Louisville kickoff early in the third quarter Larkin pounced on the fumble to give the Fire the ball back moments after they scored on the first play of the third quarter. One play later the Fire took control of the game with a touchdown, stretching their lead to three possessions. This is Larkin's first weekly honor of his career.

ADT DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Adams (5-9, 190, Mississippi Valley State), in his second season, earned league honors for consecutive weeks in Memphis' 64-49 victory over the Rio Grande Valley Dorados in the National Conference Championship Game on Friday night. Last week Adams earned Offensive Player of the Week honors, now he is recognized for his performance on the other side of the ball. Against the Dorados he registered a week high 10 tackles (8UA-4AT). Adams came up with the key turnover in the game when he forced and recovered it with six minutes remaining in the game. Four plays later the Xplorers took the ball into the endzone to stretch their lead to eight points. He then finished off the Xplorers' National Conference Championship in grand style, intercepting Rio Grande Valley's final pass and returning it 49 yards for a touchdown to end the game.

Offensive Player of the Week candidates included: Louisville's Rob Mager and Cesare Manning, Memphis' Kevin Prentiss and Brian Jones, Rio Grande Valley's Dwight Counter and Marquis Floyd, Florida's Cainon Lamb.

U.S. Army Ironman of the Week candidates included: Louisville's Demetrius Forney, Memphis' Sale Key, Florida's Brent Burnside, Rio Grande Valley's Marquis Floyd.

ADT Defensive Player of the Week candidates included: Memphis' Joseph Crear and Sale Key, Louisville's Rob Green, Rio Grande Valley's Deorrick Henry and Antoine Murphy, Florida's Desmond Washington.
