Lancaster JetHawks News Release
Lancaster, Ca. â A two-out bases loaded single by Sergio Santos, scored Marland Williams with the deciding run in a 2-1 10-inning win against Lake Elsinore at the Hangar. With Rancho Cucamonga's loss, the JetHawks (16-11) move back into a first place tie in the South Division. Lake Elsinore (13-13) suffers their fifth consecutive loss.
With one out in the 10th, Marland Williams set the table with his fourth single of the game. Reliever Robert Garvin then tried to pick Williams off first, and instead threw wildly past the bag and into the JetHawks bullpen, with Williams moving around to third. Dan Uggla was hit by a pitch, and took second an out later as Jaime Jones walked to load the bases. Santos then delivered a high one-hopper that hit off the glove of a backpedaling Greg Sain at third for the game-winner.
Garvin (2-3) took the loss in surrendering the winning run on two hits in two-thirds of an inning.
The only other run for the JetHawks came in the fourth inning when Chris Snyder doubled to left field, scoring Santos from first base.
Lake Elsinore's only run came in the sixth, on Joe Gerber's third home run of the season.
Santos and Williams paired up to provide most of the JetHawks offense, accumulating seven of the team's nine hits. Santos doubled and singled earlier in the game, ending the night 3-for-5. Williams provided four singles and a sacrifice in five plate appearances, and has seven hits in his last two games.
Pete Sikaras (2-1) worked 1 1/3 scoreless innings to earn the win. He has been unscored upon in his last six appearances.
The JetHawks and Storm following the three games at the Hangar, will travel to Lake Elsinore for a four game series starting on Monday.
Justin Wechsler (2-0, 5.87) makes his second start in the second game of the series, opposing the Storm's Javier Martinez ((0-1, 3.76). Game time is 7:15 p.m.
