Sanders and Prewitt announced as All-Star replacements
Published on January 13, 2005 under Continental Basketball Association 1 (CBA 1) News Release
Boise, ID (January 13, 2005) â The Continental Basketball Association League Office announced today that Dakota Wizards guard Melvin Sanders and forward Chad Prewitt have been added to the Western Conference roster for the 21st CBA All-Star Classic in Gary, Indiana, on January 19. The replacements were added due to a recent player call-up to the NBA, and other league player transactions.
Prewitt, a 6-foot-8, 235-pound forward, will be filling the roster spot of Sioux Falls Skyforce forward John Thomas, who was called-up to the NBA's Minnesota Timberwolves on January 10. In 21 games played (20 started) for the Wizards, Prewitt is averaging 11 points and five rebounds per game, while also adding 33 assists, 24 steals and 11 blocked shots. He is also shooting 48.6 percent from the floor (85 of 175) and 41.3 percent from behind the three-point line (26 of 63). The Arizona State alum posted a season high 20 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists on January 12, in a 128-117 (5-2) victory over the Michigan Mayhem.
Sanders will fill the other All-Star roster spot left open after the Wizards placed forward Dickey Simpkins on the Inactive Reserve List on January 12. The 6-foot-5, 210-pound guard, is second on the team in scoring, averaging 14.7 points per game, in 22 games played (21 started). He is also adding 5.1 rebounds and 2.7 assists per contest, while shooting 48.2 percent (132 of 274) from the floor, and 85.9 percent (55 of 64) from the free-throw line. Sanders posted back-to-back double-doubles when he notched 20 points and 16 rebounds against Yakima on November 27, followed by 21 points and 13 rebounds on November 30, again against Yakima. The Oklahoma State alum scored a season-high 34 points on January 12 against Michigan.
Both Prewitt and Sanders were selected as the top two alternates as All-Star replacements, as was voted on by CBA head coaches and team beat writers.
