Savannah Sand Gnats News Release

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The American Red Cross recently announced a blood shortage in many parts of the country and an urging for everyone who can give blood to donate. To encourage more blood donation, the Savannah Sand Gnats are offering one free general admission flex ticket good for any 2007 home game at Historic Grayson Stadium to anyone with proof of a recent blood donation. The offer is valid all season long.

Members of the Sand Gnats front office staff and Gnate the Gnat went to donate blood Wednesday morning at the Savannah Community Blood Bank at Market Walk on Hodgson Memorial Drive. The team plans to return for another donation again in three months.

Hospitals generally prefer to operate with a three-day supply of blood on hand, but many regions are operating with a one-day emergency supply. One pint of blood can save three lives through blood, plasma and platelets, according to the Red Cross' website.

The Sand Gnats open the season on April 5 at home with a 7:05 Thirsty Thursday game against the Asheville Tourists. Tickets and a complete schedule are available at www.sandgnats.com.
