San Diego\'s Superwomen join the WPFL

San Diego CA - The SunFire joins 18 other teams in the Women's Professional Football League.

Last season San Diego spent the campaign in the start up AFWL, a league of teams based solely on the West Coast. The makeshift league was a temporary stomping ground for the SunFire and has been dissolved. "With the WAFL break up in 2001, our main goal was to have a group of teams to play, and we accomplished that."

The WPFL, entering its' fifth season, is the longest running women's full contact tackle football league. In front of enthusiastic crowds with phenomenal media attention.

The SunFire wil hold open tryouts for the 2003 season this Saturday, March 29, 2003 at Miramar Marine Base. Registration will begin at 9.00 am, tryouts at 10.00 am.

WHEN: Saturday, March 29th, 2003

WHERE: Miramar Base – Field One – From 15 exit Miramar Way.. Go through back gate. Tell Guard that you are there for the Women's Football team. Go to the first light and go right. The street is Gonsalves. Go up 2 streets – past the new gym. Take a Right on Elrod. Go through stop sign and bear right.

TIME: 10am – 1pm Registration starts at 9 am

FORMAT: Format: NFL style combine, 40-yard dash, short shuttle, position and ball handling drills.

Cleats required and a mouthpiece is suggested. No contact at tryout. SIGNUP: Email tryouts@sandiegosunfire.com for registration materials

Participants should be prepared to complete any drills that are done at a professional football combine or tryout including but not limited to: Short Shuttle, 40-Yard Dash, Vertical Leap, One-on-One Drills, etc.

The 2003 WPFL regular season begins August 2nd and consists of a ten game schedule.
