San Diego, CA â Third time's the charm!! Fresh off an unforgettable second season, the SunFire announces open tryouts on March 29th for it's third campaign!!
The SunFire seeks active women ages 18 years and older for an NFL combine style tryout. Experienced College Athletes from all sports are invited. Here's your chance to play American style tackle football with one of the best teams in the country!.
San Diego's Superwomen finished with the best record in the American Football Women's League, and came just short of calling themselves Champions.
It was a second season to remember for the SunFire! The SunFire put San Diego on the women's football map by starting flag football leagues for women and girls. The women have volunteered hundreds of hours conducting girls football clinics all over San Diego. They've formed alliances with the San Diego Spirit, the San Diego RipTide, Girls Scouts, San Diego City College and the Pacific Women's Sports Foundation for National Girls and Women in Sports Day celebrations. For the second straight year they were asked to host the San Diego Chargers NFL Gatorade Punt, Pass and Kick championship. The SunFire was featured in the Lady Liberty Classic a women's football exhibition at the 2003 SuperBowl NFL Experience. San Diego's Super Women finished the regular season UNDEFEATED, and ended with a 9-1 record for Second place in the AFWL. The city showed it's appreciation by proclaiming December 14th, San Diego SunFire Day!!
WHEN: Saturday, March 29th, 2003 (Tryout 1)
WHERE: Miramar Base â Field One
TIME: 10am â 1pm Registration starts at 9 am
FORMAT: Format: NFL style combine, 40-yard dash, short shuttle, position and ball handling drills. Cleats required and a mouthpiece is suggested. No contact at tryout.

The SunFire will play Professional Women's Football teams from all over the country starting early August of 2003. Here in the 3rd season, the SunFire hopes to build even bigger marketing partnerships with Cox Channel 4, Clear Channel Communications and Z90, the San Diego Chargers, Padres, Spirit and the RipTide. The SunFire also hopes to expand on its relationships with KUSI, KFMB, KSWB, KGTV and Fox6, as well as the San Diego Union Tribune, North County Times, KSON and B100.
