San Diego Spirit News Release
SAN DIEGO - A MRI on the left knee of San Diego Spirit midfielder Allie Sullivan conducted this morning at Oasis Sports Medicine has confirmed a complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament, ending her WUSA season. Sullivan landed awkwardly after jumping over the tackle of New York Power midfielder Shannon Boxx in the 85th minute of last night's game. Sullivan had entered the match in the 58th minute.
There was no damage to her meniscus cartilage or to her medial collateral ligament. Sullivan, 28, will have surgery next Tuesday, July 29th, at Alvarado Hospital.
The three-year WUSA veteran, who played her first two years with the Boston Breakers, played in 17 games this season for the Spirit, scoring one goal with three assists.
"We're going to miss her in the last three games of the season," said Spirit head coach Omid Namazi. "She's given us a spark off the bench with her speed and determination. For the rest of the season, players like Susan Bush, Jen Nielsen and Shauna Rohbock will have to step up and fill the roll of that player coming off the bench to make an impact."
