San Diego Spirit News Release
San Diego Spirit players are shining at the 2003 Algarve Cup tournament in Portugal. Aly Wagner, the club's #1 drat pick, scored a late equalizing goal to help the U.S. tie Canada, 1-1, in the opening game of the tourney. On Sunday, Shannon MacMillan tallied the lone goal in the Americans 1-0 win over rival Norway. Spirit captain Julie Foudy and defender Joy Fawcett are joining MacMillan and Wagner in Portugal for this prestigious tournament. The U.S. can advance to the title match with a win over Sweden on Tuesday, or a Norway tie or win against Canada.

QUOTE SHEET
Omid Namazi on Cal State Fullerton match...
"We started out slow, but picked it up late after scoring two goals before the half. I was pleased with the effort in the second half, as we played much better during the last forty-five minutes."
Omid Namazi on the LMU match...
"The game against LMU was a good opportunity for us to get a better look at some players that we still have in camp. I thought our play at times was very good, but at times sloppy. We are working on becoming a more efficient team while in possession of the ball, as well as our transition from offense to defense, and vice versa, which needs to be a little quicker. Our defenders did a good job of keeping their forwards in check. In the midfield it took us a while to get organized and sort out our markings, but once we did we look good in there, with the combination of Mascaro and Nielsen. Allie Kemp-Sullivan once again showed her speed and athleticism by finding the space behind their defenders and scoring three goals in the first half. Overall it was a good game and our players our starting to understand their roles much better."
