San Diego Spirit News Release
SAN DIEGO â San Diego Spirit head coach Carlos Juarez has waived midfielder Kim Calkins and released forward Amy Kofoed, cutting his roster down to 21 players, including Chinese international Zhang Ouying, who is set to arrive in San Diego on Thursday.
Juarez must name his 18-player active roster and two-player reserve team by March 31, meaning he must release one more player to get down to the league-mandated 20-player limit. Calkins was picked up in January's waiver draft after playing last season for the Boston Breakers. Kofoed, a former University of Utah star, was the Spirit's third-round choice in the 2002 WUSA Draft.
The San Diego Spirit will kick off their second season on April 13 against the Carolina Courage. The Spirit will play their home matches at the renovated 7,035-seat Torero Stadium on the campus of the University of San Diego. Tickets for 2002 are now on sale. For more ticket information, please contact the Spirit ticket office at 1-877-4SOCCER (1-877-476-2237) or 619-692-9872, or visit the club's website at www.sandiegospirit.com.
